Today is a very special day for us. Gleneagles Hotel celebrates its 90th anniversary!
The hotel was open on the 6th of June 1924, after Donald Matheson, general manager of the former Caledonian Railway Company spent 14 years working on his vision of creating a large country house hotel which would provide leisure and golf facilities to those traveling around and through Scotland. At the time of opening the hotel was described as ‘a Riviera in the Highlands’ and ‘the eighth wonder of the world‘.
Today, Gleneagles is owned by Diageo plc, custodians of iconic brands such as Johnnie Walker, Guinness, and Tanqueray gin and is considered by industry peers, the general public and the Media as one of the best resorts in the world.
Gleneagles had an important part in establishing Connoisseurs Scotland. In July 1994 it was one of the seven guarantors and members to create Connoisseurs Scotland, our relationship has been a long and fruitful one all these years.
In celebration to its 90th anniversary, some of Gleneagles’ staff channeled the glamour of the Roaring Twenties in a fun photoshoot. The result were the beautiful images below, as you can see, elegance is timeless.
They also gathered photographs and memorabilia shared by guests who have stayed at Gleneagles in the past, some recently, others many years ago. Ask the staff to see some of this when you visit the resort next.
Congratulations Gleneagles for bringing so much joy to so many people for the last 90 years and for thank you for your support from the very beginning.
